IAB Awards show appreciation of good bookkeepers

14 December 2015

Last week I was lucky enough to be invited to attend the IAB awards at the House of Commons.  It was a great experience to join a ceremony which each year acknowledges good bookkeepers, payroll administrators and education centres and it was a reminder how important good qualified bookkeeping and payroll people are for businesses.

Many bookkeepers work on their own at home and have little interaction with others so it can be a very lonely occupation and there is really no way of knowing whether you are doing a good job or not. The IAB present their awards based on testimonials and interviews thereby ensuring that only those who make a difference and are truly passionate about what they do are honoured.  As a previous winner of both the bookkeeping and payroll awards I know how valuable it is to be shown appreciation in this way.

The IAB (International Association of Bookkeepers) are a not for profit organisation providing bookkeeping and payroll qualifications to develop bookkeepers as well as providing support for career development.  The qualifications are accredited by Ofqual and I found them to be extremely valuable for developing my knowledge. They are very practical qualifications which can be easily applied to the day to day work which bookkeepers and payroll administrators carry out and I always recommend them to people who want to know what qualifications they should take to become a bookkeeper. The IAB also provides apprenticeship qualifications in bookkeeping and payroll enabling young people to start on a career path which can take them on to an accountancy career.

It is important that bookkeepers and payroll administrators gain qualifications and maintain and develop their knowledge in order to do a good job and keep pace with changing legislation.  Our team of bookkeepers are all qualified via IAB, ICB or AAT and they find their qualifications extremely valuable for carrying out their work.

If you want to find out more about IAB qualifications visit their website www.iab.org.uk. If you are a newly qualified bookkeeper or payroll administrator looking for employment send an email and I will let you know when we have a suitable vacancy.
